I’m going to be honest. Blogging is hard. Keeping up with your passions is hard. It’s much easier said than done.
While I do preach following your passions, I also hella preach self-care. While self-care can come in a variety of different forms, it’s often confused with indulgence. Self-care is the care of your physical and mental well-being, which is easily mistaken with “treat yoself”. Doing the bare minimum and rewarding yourself with ice cream afterward isn’t self-care. It comes in a multitude of different forms. Self-care can mean cleaning your room to have a better space to concentrate. It can also mean deciding to adult and pay your bills to cross things off your to-do list. Self-care should be something that’s implemented daily, not on a once-in-a-while basis.
Self-care for me is choosing to take breaks from social media, especially Instagram. Oh, the irony. It’s hard nowadays use Instagram which is more like a business tool now rather than helping you connect with your friends. (Darn you, non-chronological order.) I do understand the business aspect and I totally respect the grind. But sometimes, it’s hard seeing people on Instagram and think to yourself, “Why am I not there right now? Why do you I not look like that?”. I feel like the issues I have with body image are even worse now than I had back in high school. It is my fault too since I love following several fashion bloggers and influencers. I constantly have to remind myself not everything on Instagram is real.
Self-care is also sometimes staying away from reading or watching the news. This year, I’ve been making the extra effort to stay updated about current events but lately, keeping up with the news has been more detrimental than beneficial to my health. I’m all for staying informed but now in healthy doses to stay woke but also sane.
